A Hudson Valley kindergartner is making waves online all because her socks don't match.

Gabi Castellazzi believes that mismatched socks may be just the thing to bring our country back together again. The Fishkill Elementary School student's mother was looking for a way to combat the negativity she experienced on social media over the past year. That's when her daughter suggested socks.

Gabi is known for wearing different socks because it "makes people smile." She thought if everyone mixed up their socks it might make them smile too. The idea has caught fire, and in just a few weeks her Facebook group titled "Gabi's Mismatched Socks for a Nicer World" has gained over 3,000 followers.

Gabi's mother, Jennifer, says that people from all over the world have joined the group, sharing photos of their own mismatched socks to help inspire others to not take themselves so seriously.

The next step, says Jennifer, is to inspire real life acts of kindness. Gabi and her mom are currently organizing a sock drive. Donations of new socks will be given to those in need to stay warm this winter.

If you'd like to learn more about Gabi's campaign you can follow her Facebook group, which is open to the public.
