A local girl had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of meeting the Pope. She wanted to make sure she would always remember the day so she asked the pontiff to take a selfie.

The Times Herald Record talked with Veronica DiPaul who is a 17-year-old senior at John S. Burke Catholic High School in Goshen DiPaul was selected along with 11 other was high school students from the Archdiocese of New York to meet the Pope.

While Pope Francis was in New York he took time to speak with the school children in a Harlem church before riding in his historic motorcade through Central Park. DiPaul says that the Pope strayed from his schedule and took extra time to meet with the children.

When approached by Pope Francis, DiPaul says that she asked the pontiff if he would pose with her for a selfie, and he obliged.

After the photo, DiPaul tells The Record that the Pope said "God bless you."
