The Hudson Valley has a new place for fans of Star Trek to live long and prosper.

Earlier this month a new chapter of the Starfleet Command Fan Club Association celebrated their inaugural meeting at the Dragon's Den in Poughkeepsie. The group, over 4 decades old, is the world's Oldest Star Trek Fan Club Association.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that after Lee Starshine moved to the Hudson Valley from Iowa in December she decided to start the new chapter of the club, naming it the USS Henry Hudson fan club. "Captain" Starshine selected the name USS Henry Hudson in honor of the famed explorer who discovered the river that runs through the Hudson Valley.

After petitioning "Starfleet Command," Lee inaugurated the Hudson Valley chapter on February 7 at the Dragon's Den. Those who are interested in the club can contact Lee at the chapter's official website.

According to the site, in addition to bringing together Star Trek fans in the area the club's other mission is to give back to the community through the following activities:

  • preservation of the Hudson River
  • attending science fiction conventions
  • playing Star Trek Attack Wing at the Dragon's Den in the Poughkeepsie Plaza Mall
  • adhering to the Articles of Federation as part of the non-profit Starfleet Command
  • respecting each other and honoring the principle of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations (tolerance)
