A local couple has been arrested after authorities found dozens of animals in their care in extremely poor health.

ABC 7 reports Steven and Loretta Doss of Port Jervis have been charged after a search warrant was executed. Several animals were found in their home, but dozens more were located in a barn leased by the couple 10 miles away in Westtown.

The Humane Society of Port Jervis is taking care of the animals, although with 32 rabbits, three goats and a pig, their resources are stretched thin. Reportedly the rabbits are in worst shape of all the animals recovered. The Humane Society hopes to nurse the animals back to health, but their fate depends on the court case of the Doss'. They are due back in court on Sept. 21.
