Interim Healthcare is apologizing over a biased "help wanted" ad in a Rockland County newspaper. The ad, which appeared in the October 15th edition of the New City Pennysaver, was looking for a “laid back nurse,” but “no Haitians.”

The West Haverstraw based in-home nursing provider issued a statement on their website and Facebook. Interim Healtcare says the ad is “"totally unacceptable and is offensive to us. Please accept our sincere apology. In particular, we apologize to the entire Haitian community." The company also says they are hiring a third party to conduct a review of what happened.

New City Pennysaver also apologized and said the ad was published by mistake and without "proper editing protocol," and has since been removed.

ABC News reports, the state attorney general’s office sent also noticed the prejudiced print-ad. A letter from the office was sent to Interim Healthcare said the ad "violates federal and state civil rights laws that prohibits discrimination in hiring on the basis of national origin."

The letter also requested the names of all staff and personnel responsible for hiring, and the names of those responsible for producing and sending out employment ads.

The Haitian American Nurses Association of Greater New York said they are shocked and disgusted by the ad.
