A Hudson Valley child lost his life in a home fire Friday morning.

On Friday around 5:22 a.m., New York State Police were sent to Relyea Terrace in Wappinger for a structure fire by Dutchess County 911.

Upon arrival at the scene, troopers were told a child may still be in the residence.

Troopers made entry to the house without protective fire gear but were unable to locate the child due to extensive fire and smoke, police say.

Upon arrival of fire personnel, officials wearing fire gear reentered the house from a ladder extended to a bedroom window.

An unconscious child was found and removed from the house through a window.

The child, who was identified as Sean Burlingame, 7, was transported to Vassar Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police say.

The other five occupants of the home were able to escape to safety prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, according to police.

One of the responding troopers from the Wappinger State Police Barracks, who made entry to the house, was transported to Vassar hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and remains under investigation.
