Police are hoping you can help after a Hudson Valley cemetery was vandalized twice. Many irreplaceable headstones were destroyed.

On June 17, and again on August 22, a number of headstones were damaged at the Wiltwyck Cemetery in Kingston. The area impacted is an older section of the cemetery, according to Kingston police.

Many older and irreplaceable headstones were damaged or broken during the two incidents. Cemetery management is trying to return most of the stones to their upright position, but many of the older headstones were damaged and are not able to be repaired properly, police say.

"Cemeteries are places where many of us go to remember loved ones. Others visit cemeteries to enjoy the tranquility, history, or just for the parklike atmosphere a cemetery has to offer," Kingston police wrote on Facebook. "For whatever reason you go to a cemetery, it is always upsetting when you see vandalism to headstones."

If anyone has information in regards to the vandalism at Wiltwyck Cemetery, police ask you to call the Kingston Police Department at 845-331-1671.
