A Hudson Valley brewery won the gold at this year's World Beer Cup, which featured 5,000 beer entries from over 60 countries.

The World Beer cup is held once every two years. Brewers from all over the globe compete in 96 different categories to find out who's ales and lagers reign supreme. This year's competition was held in Philadelphia where over 200 beer professionals served as judges to find the very best beers the world has to offer.

In the category of American Style Sour Ale, this year's gold medal was awarded to Confliction from Sloop Brewing in Elizaville. Founded just five years ago by Adam Watson and Justin Taylor, Sloop Brewing has quickly become recognized around the world for their unique and expertly crafted beers.

In 2011 the duo began brewing out of Justin's garage and selling their beer at farm markets. As word quickly spread about the quality of their beer, the hobby soon turned into a thriving business. Sloop Brewing eventually opened up their own microbrewery on a farm in Elizaville and now have a gold medal to add to their already impressive resume.

Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown was also a big winner at the World Beer Cup, being recognized as overall Champion Brewer and Brewery for Mid-sized Brewery. They also picked up awards for Three Philosophers, Gnomegang and a gold medal in Belgian Style Fruit Beers for Rosetta.

Druthers Brewing Company in Albany also won a silver medal in Scottish Style Ales for their 80 Shilling.
