A Hudson Valley automotive business has notified the NY State Department of Labor that it will be closing in November, laying off all 40 of its workers.

According to state law, when a business anticipates layoffs of 33 percent of their workforce they are required to issue a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification 90 days before closing down. A WARN notice was issued this week by Ruge's Automotive on Broadway in Red Hook.

According to a description of Ruge's Parts Center published in the Yellow Pages, the company was established in 1979 and stocks an inventory of more than 35,000 parts for General Motors, Chrysler and Subaru vehicles. The company manages more than 15 fleet vehicles that deliver to western Connecticut, Western Massachusetts and some parts of Vermont.

The reason cited for the closing of the business is listed on the WARN notice as "economic." The filing also shows that all 40 workers that will be laid off are not represented by a union. The business is scheduled to close on November 3.
