A recent article on Yahoo highlighted a family from Buffalo that decided to dump cable.  That's right.  No ESPN, no Discovery, no HBO, not even HGTV... sounds miserable, right?  Well, it's actually not as bad as you think.

With a $99 AppleTV box and a Netflix streaming subscription, this family seem to be alive and well.  The biggest sacrifice came from the husband, who had to give up watching live sports.  Otherwise, they say the decision wasn't all that difficult.  Most shows are 30% commercials, so watching them commercial-free on Netflix is much less annoying.  Also, the savings of $100 a month, or $1,200 a year, has softened the blow of not catching the 5 hour Storage Wars marathon every weeknight.

This may be a growing trend. According to Nielsen, more than 90 percent of American households pay for TV, but last year, an estimated 4.7 million American households that previously paid for TV have opted to cancel their service.

So what do you think?  Would you even entertain the idea of cutting the cable cord?
