Most parents have already received the dreaded back to school shopping list. Want to guess how much it's gonna cost you in glue sticks this year?

For years I've heard the complaints and grumblings from other parents about the back to school supply list. Honestly, all of the noise over buying pens and pencils seemed a bit dramatic to me, so I didn't pay it much mind. That is, until I got my son's very first kindergarten shopping list.

I honestly wasn't prepared for the amount of items that were needed for a child to enter kindergarten. And by amount of items, I mean the amount of each item. Seriously,18 gluesticks seems a bit excessive for just about anyone. What will they actually be doing with that much glue during the course of a year?

Since I have yet to go shopping for my list, I thought it would be fun to play a game of The Price Is Right with the WPDH listeners. Here's a copy of the shopping list and you try and guess how much it will all cost. The closest without going over will get any leftover Expo Low Odor Dry Erase Markers that aren't used by the end of the year:

  • 8 boxes of Crayola crayons (box of 8 or 16 classic colors, no jumbo)
  • 1 pair of Fiskar scissors
  • 16 small Elmer's gluesticks and 2 jumbo gluesticks
  • 24 yellow No. 2 Ticonderoga pencils, sharpened
  • 4 folders with bottom pockets (plastic is preferred)
  • 1 package of Expo Low Odor Dry Erase Markers (black, thin)
  • 1 pack of 3x3 Post-It Notes
  • Sandwich size ziplock bags
  • Lysol Wipes
  • Baby Wipes
  • Large box of tissues
  • 1 package of 3x5 index cards

Ok, got that? Remember, these are brand specific so I'll be buying the exact items on the list. Do some quick common core math and post the answer on my Facebook page or in the comments section below. Good luck!

While discussing the shopping list another parent quickly reminded me that there are most likely a lot of other parents who simply can't afford supplies, so the excessive amount of items are to make sure all of the children have enough glue sticks to go around without feeling embarrassed. Well, that makes me fell a lot better. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford the supplies, so I'm happy to pitch in if it's all going to be used by the kids. But still, that is a whole lot of number two pencils even if just a couple of parents pitch in.

I'll be shopping later this week, so put in your guesses and good luck!
