According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, some areas of the Hudson Valley rank high in the nation when it comes to weekly salaries. However, there's a big difference in average income depending on which county you live in.

The Daily Freeman posted wage information by county, and it looks like those in Westchester make considerably more than those in other parts our region. According to the latest statistics, Westchester had the 22nd highest wages in the country, averaging $1,215 per week. Rockland is close behind, ranked 70th with the average worker earning $1,003 a week.

This is a stark contrast to Sullivan County, in which the average worker makes only $758 per week. Duchess ranks 83rd in the nation with a weekly wage of $969 while Orange County falls at 214th with $825.

Here's a comparison of the average weekly wages in our area by county:

  • Westchester $1,215

  • Dutchess $969
  • Putnam $963
  • Orange $825
