This simple box of tissues is secretly sending a message to the hotel staff. Do you know what it is?

While spending the weekend away I stumbled upon a hotel secret that you may have never heard before. Once you figure it out, though, you'll think it makes perfect sense.

It's very likely that you've never run out of tissues in a hotel room. I've traveled quite a bit and have stayed at all sorts of hotels and can't remember one instance when I wound up with an empty tissue box. With all of the things a hotel maid needs to do, you'd think that somewhere down the line they would forget to check to see if the tissues are running low.

Well, they actually don't have to check. You see, there are special tissue boxes that are made for hotels where the tissues are all white until the last dozen or so. When the tissue box gets close to empty, the tissues turn from white to beige.

Hotel maids are trained to look at the tissues while cleaning the rooms. If they're still white, that means there's no reason to change the box. If they're beige, then the maid simply grabs a new box and replaces the tissue holder. It's the same concept used at grocery stores when the receipts change colors just before the tape runs out.

So, have you ever noticed this before? The next time you're at a hotel, just start emptying out the tissue box and you'll see this secret signal for yourself.
