A famous actress surprised animals and Hudson Valley residents alike by spending her Thanksgiving at a local animal shelter.

Adam Saunders, the executive director of the Ulster County SPCA told HVNN that he was surprised by a call announcing that acclaimed actress, Andie MacDowell wanted to spend her Thanksgiving with the animals at his shelter.

MacDowell is currently on break from filming the movie “Love After Love” in Kingston. The family drama stars MacDowell, who won acclaim for her previous roles in Groundhog Day, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Sex, Lies and Videotape.

Filming was halted during the Thanksgiving weekend, so with extra time on her hands MacDowell decided to roll up her sleeves and spend some time with the animals at the SPCA. The actress walked some dogs, spent some time with the cats and even bathed a few animals.

Saunders told HVNN that MacDowell clearly has a love of animals and confided in him that she recently lost a pet of her own. The actress also expressed an interest in opening up a shelter of her own one day.
