A 71-year-old hiker was injured after sliding down an icy section of trail in the Catskills on Saturday.

A New York Department of Environmental Conservation press release said five rangers two volunteers from the Town of Lexington fire department responded after the Ulster County woman injured her ankle between Mount Sherrill and North Dome mountains at 1:30PM.

The mountains are considered bushwack hikes, requiring hikers to leave a designated trail in order to reach the summit.

The rangers and volunteers hiked over three miles of trail-less terrain with rescue equipment and reached the injured hiker at 5:45PM. The rangers and volunteers stabilized the hiker's ankle and carried her out.

Due to rough terrain, it took rescuers more than seven hours to reach the parking area. The rescue concluded at 1:15AM.

The woman declined further medical treatment at the scene, saying she would seek treatment at a later time.
