Another reminder to never celebrate too soon.

It was the finals of the Rhode Island Division III tournament this past weekend, that pit Burrillville High against Chariho.

Thinking that they had sealed the victory and state title, the Burrillville Broncos celebrated in dramatic fashion at center court. After all, a Burrillville player had just picked off an inbound pass with only four seconds left, and then flung the ball high in the air thinking time would have expired by the time the ball landed.

Not quite.

A Chaiho player had actually caught the ball and then called a quick timeout, with only one second remaining.

Sure enough, Chariho inbounded the pass and scored a quick bucket and ended up winning the game, 60-59.
