If you were anywhere near the Tappan Zee Bridge this morning here is why traffic came to a halt just in time for the end of the Friday morning commute.

State Police are investigating a rollover accident that took place on Friday morning. Officials report that a tractor-trailer carrying scrap metal overturned on the Zappan Zee Bridge, spilling debris all over.

The accident shut down both the north and south lanes on the bridge.  Southbound traffic was eventually reopened in the morning, but it took longer for the North side of the bridge to get cleared of debris.  Thruway Maintenance and a rather large tow truck were called in to finally get traffic flowing again.

Amazingly, no one was injured in the accident, including the driver of the truck. All lanes are now back open.
