The Times Union reports that multiple law enforcement agencies are involved in an effort to corral about a dozen buffalo that are on the loose in the town Bethlehem, NY. The bison reportedly escaped from GEM Farms in Schodack on Thursday afternoon. The owner of the farm says he suspects the animals swam across the Hudson River.

The bison reportedly rushed police lines, crossing Route 144 with police, media and onlookers tailing them. The buffalo stopped for a time at the edge of the Thruway, before breaking through a low fence and running across the highway.

Fortunately there were no accidents as the buffalo crossed, though vehicles slammed on their breaks and came to an abrupt halt to avoid hitting the herd. Latest reports indicate that they're moving toward Route 9W..
