Some of your favorite Hudson Valley grocery stores scored poorly during recent inspections by the board of health.

The State of New York has always published information on inspections made at restaurants and eating establishments. Now, the Department of Health has begun assigning letter grades to grocery stores as well. We checked out all of the available information compiled by NYDatabases.com to see how our local stores ranked and were surprised to find out that some popular grocery stores received low marks.

The board of health gives either a ranking of A, B or C to each store they inspect. An "A" rating means that no critical deficiencies were found and everything is operating as it should. Stores that receive a "B" rating have some critical deficiencies that were able to be corrected before inspectors left.

The worst rating of "C" is given to establishments that were found with critical deficiencies that could not be immediately corrected. These establishments are viewed by inspectors as needing immediate corrective action.

  • KJ Grand Food Market in Monroe
  • Lupitas Deli in Middletown
  • Marlboro Country Market in Marlboro
  • Party Fruit Planet in Monticello
  • R&K Poughkeepsie Grocery in Poughkeepsie
  • Sam's Club in Middletown
