Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Friday, October 5th, 24-year-old Joemy Rivera entered a guilty plea to the charge of Gang Assault in the Second Degree in Orange County Court.  The charge stems from an assault and stabbing in March of this year.

Rivera of Middletown is the fourth and final defendant to take a plea in this case.  Sccording to Hoovler, Rivera admitted to going with fellow Middletown residents Kayla Curry, Miguel Irizarry and Christian Reyes to the victim's girlfriend's house on March 25 with the intention of assaulting the victim.  Rivera's admission said that he stabbed the victim multiple times in the back with a knife.  Hoovler said that Rivera's actions resulted in serious injuries to the victim including a lacerated kidney and punctured lung sending the victim to Orange Regional Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit.

Pursuant to the plea agreement Rivera will be sentenced to eight years in prison and five years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced on November 5.  Rivera's three accomplices entered guilty pleas on September 27 and are scheduled to be sentenced on January 14, 2019.
