Thanks to a major crackdown on impaired driving over the Memorial Day Weekend, there was an incredible amount of arrests in the Hudson Valley and across New York State.

According to the Ithica Journal, over 5,000 vehicles went through sobriety checkpoints in New York State between May 22 and May 25, resulting in 187 DWI arrests. 12,082 tickets were handed out for various offenses, including speeding, distracted driving, not wearing a seatbelt and not following New York's move over law. Here is a breakdown of the total tickets handed out in the state:

  • 125 tickets issued for not moving over for a pulled-over emergency vehicle, a violation of the Move Over Law.
  • 3,597 tickets for speeding
  • 2,932 seatbelt violations
  • 381 tickets for distracted driving

Locally, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports that there were 30 arrests in Dutchess County with 23 of them resulting from DWI.
