Austrian Grandmother Shreds Money To spite Family

Somebody must have really pissed off grandma.

An 85 year-old Austrian woman was so adamant in preventing her heirs from inheriting her money that she literally cut up and shredded $1.1 million dollars (950, 000 Euros).

Prosecutors said that after the woman passed away in a retirement home, the 950,000 euros as well as savings accounts books were found shredded on her bed.

State prosecutor Erich Habitzl said there was nothing he could do for the woman's family. "The damage of the money in the woman's property is not a criminal matter, so we have not begun any investigation," Habitzl told AFP.

OeNB, which is Austria's central bank, said it will still replace all the money, so the family might still get it after all. "If the heirs can only find shreds of money and if the origin of the money is assured, then of course it can all be replaced," said Friedrich Hammerschmidt, deputy head of the OeNB cashier division.

Still, one must wonder what happened and why the woman would spite her own family?
