Everything was going as planned until a giant bee walked through the door.

The Boris & Robyn Show was broadcasting live on Friday morning from the Dunkin' Donuts on Rt. 9 in Wappingers Falls. It was the kick off to our gift card drive to benefit the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie.

We're asking the WPDH listeners to pick up an extra gift card this holiday season and drop it off at one of our live shows. Those cards will be donated to the kids living at the Children's Home, which is an incredible organization giving kids from at-risk home environments a safe and loving place to live and grow.

Many listeners stopped by during our first broadcast, bringing gift cards from electronic stores, toy stores and popular clothing stores. We were blown away by everyone's generosity, but what came next was completely unexpected.

During one of our final live breaks of the morning a giant dancing bumblebee walked through the door followed by two people holding an enormous novelty check.

At first we were completely confused, but then we realized it was Michael Campbell from the Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union holding the check made out to the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie for $1,000.

Michael explained that he and his coworkers were listening to our live broadcast and wanted to do something to help the Children's Home.  They quickly printed up the check, grabbed their mascot, Buxbee, and drove all they way down from Kingston in hopes of surprising us live on the air.

Well, mission accomplished.

Thank you to everyone who donated on Friday, it really means the world to us. And if you didn't get a chance to stop by we'll be collecting more donations at the following locations:

  • Friday night, December 9 at the world-record ERDAJT light display at 8 Patrick Drive in Lagrangeville
  • Thursday, December 15 from 6am to 10am at Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 9 in Hyde Park
  • Thursday, December 22 from 6am to 10am at Crunch Fitness on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie
