An impromptu fundraiser to honor a local first grader raised more money than anyone expected.

The Boris & Robyn Show hosted a live broadcast at the Dunkin' Donuts on Route 9D in Wappingers Falls. The event was planned as an early kick-off to this year's fundraiser for Alex's Lemonade Stand. All money raised from this year's campaign will be donated to the children's cancer charity in honor of Wappingers Falls first grader Kelsey Berger, who lost her battle with Lukemia this week.

Staff from Smith Clove Elementary School in Monroe kicked off the morning with the first donation of the day. Stephanie, Eileen and Melinda presented Alex's Lemonade Stand with a check for over $800. That donation was followed by many more.

Hundreds of listeners stopped by to drop off contributions and were met with free coffee, donuts and breakfast sandwiches. Local Dunkin' Donuts manager, Yuwen Chen, surprised  everyone during the live broadcast with a check for $1,000.

All of the money raised will go directly to Alex's Lemonade Stand in honor of Kelsey.

If you'd like to contribute, please consider organizing a fundraiser of your own. Be sure to let us know about it at BattleOfTheStands.com so we can spread the word and help you raise as much money as possible in Kelsey's name.

You can also donate directly to Alex's Lemonade Stand on Team Kelsey's official campaign page.
