Happy Birthday today (Oct. 23) to bassist Robert Trujillo (Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Suicidal Tendencies). He’s 51.

Robert Trujillo is the current bassist for Metallica. He joined the band in 2003 as a permanent replacement for Jason Newsted. Trujillo also played in trash metal band Suicidal Tendencies and funk metal band Infectious Grooves, along with Black Label Society, Jerry Cantrel of Alice In Chains, and Ozzy.

Metallica's Death Magnetic album was released in 2008 and it would be the first Metallica album to feature Robert Trujillo on bass. The album was Metallica's fifth consecutive album to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, making them the first band ever to do so. Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, and it was announced that Jason Newsted (who had left the band in 2001) would perform at the ceremony. Trujillo agreed not to play at the ceremony, although he did appear on stage with Newsted during the band's set of 'Master of Puppets' and 'Enter Sandman'.
