A former Hudson Valley track star made history in Malaysia.

Hopewell Junction resident Trenten Beram won gold in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash at the 29th Southeast Asian Games at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Malaysia.

“I was really just being myself so winning the gold was a bonus. I knew that I was coming in as a rookie, nobody knows me so it is good to put my name out there,” Beram told ABSCBN Sports.

Running for the Philippines, the 21-year-old is the country’s first double-gold winner, reports the Tiebreaker Times.

“This feels great because this is my first SEA Games. I am only 21 so this is only the beginning,” he said.

Beram, a rising junior at UConn, represented the Philippines in international competition because his mother is from the country and he is a citizen, according to UConn.

In high school, Beram ran track at Arlington High School where he was named an All-American Sprinter in the 200-meters.

The Southeast Asia Games are a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia.
