For some reason, there is an inordinate amount of food related assaults coming out of the state of Florida. That and all the other wacky stories is why we love it. In this case, there two, only days apart. Note: the above link only lists a few years worth of Florida food related assaults through Google. There's more.

According to a police report obtained from The Smoking Gun, 34 year-old Jonathan Smith of Bradenton was sitting down for a meal with his mother when he began throwing his food at her. The scene was certainly a messy one, as officers reported that the mother's face and hair were covered in potato salad. Smith also allegedly pushed her to the ground and spit on her as she tried to leave the room. Not nice, Jonathan

The Smoking Gun reported that Smith later fled on a bicycle but was arrested by an officer who noted the suspect appeared to be intoxicated. He was charged with misdemeanor battery and a probation violation for a 2014 burglary conviction of stealing less than $5,000 from a building.

Earlier last week, another bizarre domestic violence incident involving food took place. This time, in the nearby Florida town of Sarasota.

The Smoking Gun says that 40 year-old Matthew Burnett got into an argument with his 36-year-old girlfriend at a Ramada Inn, and allegedly smashed a plate of sauerkraut in her face. Police said Burnett then shoved his girlfriend of ten months against a wall and took the glasses off her face. She had a minor injury, but refused medical treatment.

Burnett posted $500 bail on a charge of misdemeanor domestic battery and has a Sept. 22 court date, the outlet reported.
