An American Airlines passenger jet carrying 147 people made an emergency landing in Syracuse on Monday.

NBC NY is reporting that the pilot died aboard the aircraft.

The Airbus A320 was American Airlines Fflight 550, departing from Phoenix en route to Boston.

The plane landed at Syracuse Hancock International Airport at 7:13 a.m. after the pilot became ill, Syracuse.com reported.

"We are incredibly saddened by this event, and we are focused on caring for our pilot's family and colleagues," the airline said in a statement to Syracuse.com.

A replacement crew will bring the passengers to Boston.
