First-of-its-Kind Outdoor Venue Being Built in Hudson Valley

A state-of-the-art venue planned for the Hudson Valley will mark an important architectural and environmental milestone never before reached.

Imagine gathering for an evening of entertainment and settling into a beautiful new venue that utilizes the Hudson River as an incredible backdrop. This will soon become a reality thanks to a project led by an innovative architectural firm.

New Theater Will Be a First for the United States

A 13,850-square-foot theater that seats 480 people is set to break ground next year. What makes this venue even more special is the fact that it will be the first purpose-built LEED Platinum theater in the United States. LEED Platinum is the highest level of certification given to a structure's impact on the environment. The new venue will officially be the most efficiently designed and operated venue to be built in the nation.

Studio Gang

A Stage That's as Beautiful as it is Environmentally Sustainable

The architectural and design group, Studio Gang, has created plans for an outdoor theater that blends into the beauty of the Hudson Valley. Described as "a single, fluid gesture, like the wing of a bird" the venue features exposed timber A-frame columns and relies heavily on organic materials. The building's curved roof and lines mimic the rolling hills of the Hudson River Valley behind it.

Patrons sit in a familiar semicircle facing the floor-level stage with an open backdrop. The open-air design not only allows for spectacular views, but also lots of natural ventilation during performances.

Permanent Structure to Replace Temporary Tent

This innovative venue will become the new home of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival in Garrison. Until now, the acting troupe has been performing under a tent each season. The new theater will allow actors, audiences and backstage workers to all be under the same roof. This will also extend the Shakespeare Festival's season as well.

Groundbreaking on the new theater is expected to take place in 2024.
