This is the second installment of my continuing blog about our recent house fire. You can read the first one here. Sunday night, Nov. 1. House fire is out, pets are okay, and we think we're okay. Except we're not. Bobby has burns, his eyes are burning and blurry, and he won't let us take him to the hospital. Thank God we insisted.

We drove to Mid Hudson Regional, and they got him in immediately. Four hours of chest xrays, blood tests, eye drops, iv drip. I have to say, it was really scary. I'm so thankful for our friend Victor who sat with us the whole time. Finally, we were able to leave, but not without promising that Bobby would visit an eye doctor the next day. After no sleep at all, we got cleaned up and dressed, went to our smokey, declared not fit to live in house to meet our insurance adjuster Rick Winne. He's a gem. Really, I had no clue about what I was doing, and he helped me through. Actually, he did it all. And told me what had to be done and who to call. Plumber, engineer, designer, architect. Yikes. He told me about Serve Pro (my new best friends). We made an appointment to meet them at the house the following day.

By now, it was time for Bobby's eye doctor appointment. We were so nervous that there might be permanent damage. Dr. Sauer at The Central New York Eye Center was amazing. So comforting, and he made sure to tell us Bobby would be fine in a few days. He was right. Another blessing to be thankful for. We were healthy, our cats were okay, and we'd started the ball rolling to find out what to do next and how to go about doing it. We slept a little better that night, maybe a whole two or three hours. An improvement over the night before.

Next blog: Why I love my Serve Pro friends, and how they saved me.
