A Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-400 freighter was on its way from Sydney, Australia to Kuala Lumpur when it was forced to make an emergency landing 45 minutes after taking off.

So what happened?

Emergency crews could not find any trace of fire, heat or smoke upon inspection. However, the plane was reportedly carrying 2,186 sheep. The likely cause, according to Aviation Herald: “The smoke indication was identified to be the result of exhaust gasses and manure produced by the sheep.”  Reports indicate that the noxious gas from the sheep set off the smoke alarms.

Singapore Airlines has released a statement saying that farting was not necessarily the cause of the emergency landing. “That is an assumption being made by media, which we are unable to confirm,” a spokesman for the airline said.

Of course that could simply mean they're embarrassed we emergency-landed a plane because of sheep farts.
