Facebook is "sorry."

CNN reports that Facebook has exposed millions of its users' images without permission. Some 6.8 million users to be a little more exact. The exposure came from an apparent bug. On Friday, December 14, 2018, Facebook made the announcement. The exposure happened over a 12-day span in September 2018.

Facebook believes that the bug allowed third parties to access private images on users profiles and pages, according to CNN. These pictures are believed to not be shared publicly. In addition to uploaded images, pictures that were pending upload or were in Facebook stories could also have been part of the breach.

CNN reports that the bug made images available to 1,500 apps built by 876 developers.

When Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO, was discussing the image issue, he threw in that Facebook was sorry it happened. Facebook told CNN it will be notifying people impacted by the bug or potentially impacted by the bug.
