Pointing lasers at flights is not only dangerous, as it can distract or temporarily blind pilots, but it is a serious federal crime. The Times Herald Record reports that four flights over the New York City metropolitan area, including the Hudson Valley, had lasers pointed at them late Tuesday night into early Wednesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the laser strikes happened between 9:25 p.m. Tuesday and 12:10 a.m. Wednesday. The FAA says two planes were near Warwick, New York, when they were hit. Another was struck by a laser about 20 miles south of Newark Liberty International Airport. The fourth flight was reportedly 20 miles southwest of LaGuardia Airport.

This isn't the first time this has happened recently in the Northeast. The FAA says that there were eleven reported cases of green laser lights pointed at flights last week.

No injuries were reported.
