A scheduled emergency drill at a Sullivan County Hospital back in 2012 has been deemed the cause of distress for a former nurse at the facility and she has now been awarded over $400,00 for suffering, according to the Times Herald Record.

The ex-nurse is Alison Mastandrea who was working as an emergency room nurse at the Grover M. Hermann Hospital in Callicoon back on April 26, 2012, when the hospital had a drill to simulate a narcotics robbery.

Mastandrea was never made aware of the drill and thought it was a real when a county employee entered the emergency room demanding drugs, and stated he had a gun.

After the exercise was completed, she was informed that it was a drill but the damage was already done.

She filled a lawsuit in November of 2012 that stated she suffered an emotional breakdown and has been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder and because of that she was unable to continue working as a nurse, and is now on disability.

Her lawyer, David Jaroslawicz, told the Record that Mastandrea is licensed to carry a gun and if she had been carrying her gun the day of the drill, “it would have been a real tragedy.”

Mastandrea's case was heard in the Sullivan County Supreme Court and took about two and a half weeks.

The verdict was in favor of Mastandrea and she was awarded with $490,000.
