According to eyewitnesses, the Eveready Diner, across from the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, caught on fire during the early afternoon of June 21.

UPDATE: The Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting the cause of the fire was the kitchen's deep fat fryer.  Employees of The Eveready Diner believed they extinguished the initial blaze with a fire extinguisher, but close to noon on Saturday it flared up again and quickly spiraled out of control.  About 24 employees and customers were in the building, but all safely evacuated.

It took almost 3 hours for firefighters from 3 counties to eventually put out the fire.  No word yet on the future of The Eveready.
