MVR is hostinng a Natural Horsmanship Clinic with Sonny Garguilo!

It will be a 2 day clinic with Sonny in the arena to learn the vital pieces of horsemanship and understand how to gain better control in order to build a stronger relationship between horse and rider
Refine your skills on proper leading, personal space, desensitizing, understanding whoa means whoa, teaching your horse to stand, controlling the feet, adding maneuvers into your lunging exercises, understanding points of control, building the back-up without the use of reins (which is a great road to a great stop), learn to develop a strong, safe and consistent side pass with your horse, and understand feel and timing. These are just a few topics to be covered in addition to problem solving and confidence building. All riders are welcome. Successful completion of this clinic will result in participants leaving with an improved horse and stronger confidence.

Cost to participate in the clinic Saturday and Sunday is $400 ($200/day)
Auditers are welcome and the cost is $25.

Stalls are available for $40/day, MVR will provide hay, bedding, mucking, and will also feed if owner leaves grain. Furthermore night check will be done. If space allows paddocks may be provided for turn out.

Heres a look at what will be covered over the 3 days.

FRIDAY EVENING MEET AND GREET
Clinic participants will meet with Sonny in an open forum where
all parties will have the opportunity to discuss the topics to be
covered. Sonny will be available to all participants to answer any
and all questions that may be raised. The goal of this clinic is to
further develop the education of both the horse and rider. Personal
safety of the handlers is a primary concern and will be addressed
throughout the entire clinic using a variety of methods both on the
ground and in the saddle. Successful completion of this clinic will
result in the participants leaving with an improved horse and
hopefully a strengthened desire to continue his/her equine
education.

SATURDAY MORNING
9am to 12am with a break at lunch for Q&A then resume after
lunch from 1:30pm to approximately 4:30 pm.
Riders are expected to be on time for all sessions in order that all
topics are covered sufficiently.
Day two is designed to introduce all participants to essential horse
handling skills on the ground and under saddle, to ensure the
building blocks of trust and respect. These are essential for
building mutual respect and trust between horse and rider.
The purpose of day two is to introduce participants to the topics
listed below. Depending on the skill level of each clinic
participant we will always move forward however individual riders
will only move forward if that particular rider is ready. Riders will
also TACK UP for Sonny to evaluate each individual’s
relationship with their horse and their skill level under tack.

MORNING SESSION
Sonny will assist participants with their horses on the ground in
order to build a stronger relationship between horse and rider. The
following topics are covered in the morning session:
1. Personal Space �
2. Proper Leading �
3. Desensitizing using a flag �
4. When whoa means whoa �(Teaching a horse to stand) �
5. Disengage the hindquarters �
6. Understanding feel and timing �

SATURDAY AFTERNOON SESSION
Sonny will demonstrate the following in the afternoon session:
Understanding Herd Dynamics •The language of the horse
Sonny will evaluate each horse and riders relationship in order to
allow the rider to start their own personal journey
•All riders will be UNDER TACK for evaluation Understanding
the four points of control
•Controlling all four feet. The purpose of this exercise is to prepare
the rider for the topics to be covered Sunday morning and
afternoon. Sonny will help all riders with a variety of aids to better
have all participants ready for success as the format of the clinic
progresses.
Building the back up
Building a quiet and respectful stop. Asking not forcing!
Speed Control
Disengaging and the importance of it
The Saturday Afternoon session is a combination of events.
Sonny will help participants with any particular situations that
may arise as attempts are made to further practice the
groundwork exercises demonstrated in the morning session.
Additionally participants will be exposed to the topics listed above
and begin practicing these exercises in the saddle. Time will be
allowed for Sonny to assist each participant with any situations
that may arise which will require specific solutions between the
rider and their horse to build the handy horse!

SUNDAY MORNING SESSION
THIS SESSION IS UNDER TACK
Sunday morning is a time to start putting this all
together. We will be working on teaching participants the vital
pieces of horsemanship. Both the methods and the philosophy of
understanding of how to gain better control of the horse will be
covered. These methods will in turn build a better relationship
between the horse and the rider.

Controlling the front feet and shoulders
The lateral movement/side pass�How to develop strong safe and
consistent side pass with your horse as well as the benefits
provided to you.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON SESSION
REEVAUATION OF THE HORSE AND RIDER
INDIVIDUALLY IN ORDER TO BEST HELP EACH RIDER
CONTINUES TO DEVELOP THE SKILLS INTRODUCED IN
THE PREVIOUS THREE SESSIONS.
THEN......�OFF TO THE OBSTACLE COURSE!

Here Sonny will work with you and your horse to apply
the tools you have learned over the course of the
weekend. Sonny will personally supervise all riders in
order to encourage confidence and skill when dealing
with many of the situations that the clinic participants
will encounter as they try to put the various pieces of the
clinic together.
All riders of all levels are welcome.
