PRESS RELEASE

“EL MARIDO and MONEY” ON STAGE IN APRIL
Two One-Act Plays to be Performed by the SUNY Orange Apprentice Players at Orange Hall Theatre

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Two one-act plays, under the billing of “El Marido and Money,” comprise the annual spring performances of the SUNY Orange Apprentice Players, who will showcase “Food For The Dead,” and “Lux in Tenebris” this April in Orange Hall Theatre on the College’s Middletown campus.

The student productions will enjoy a six-show run during the weekends of April 8-10 and 15-17. Evening performances on Friday and Saturday, April 8-9 and April 15-16 will begin at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinees on April 10 and 17 set for 3 p.m. There will be a “talk back” with the actors and directors immediately following the Saturday, April 9 performance.

David Cohen directs both one-act plays. “Food For The Dead” by Josefina Lopez, is a satirical comedy that explores the Mexican “Day of the Dead” tradition of putting up an altar with food for the deceased. The story centers around a Mexican-American family’s reunion on Halloween night. Candela has been mourning her husband for nine years and is finally going to say goodbye to him and hello to her new life. Her children, Jose, Rosario and Gloria, are very supportive of their new and improved mother. As the reunion progresses, her son reveals to his family that he is gay and his party guest is his lover when all hell breaks loose-literally!

“Lux in Tenebris” by Bertolt Brecht, is a short one-act farce performed in prose about prostitution, morality, and hypocrisy. The opening of an exhibit on the horrors of sexual disease right across the street from a local brothel is the catalyst for many twists and turns. The cast of EL MARIDO and MONEY” includes Cassie Corallo, Tavia Dean, Marcella Martinez, Jason Garfinkel, Andrew Spotts, Tyler Farnell, Sandy Aulet, Benji Madison, Shane Keller, Kiley Murphy, John Vidunas, James Imburgia, Olivia Cohen, Christina Polichetti, Joseph Colon, Jaysharre Armstrong and Donna de la Torre.

Ticket prices are $10, general admission; $8, senior citizens, faculty and alumni; $4, students; and free for active duty military personnel. Student tickets are only available at the box office.
