The Hudson Valley will be home to four new electric car charging stations by Memorial Day weekend.

The Journal News reports that the charging stations, located between Newburgh and Albany, will be able to fully juice up an electric car in just 35 minutes. The announcement was made at the New York State Thruway Authority's monthly board meeting on Thursday.

Northbound chargers will be installed at the Plattekill travel plaza between Newburgh and New Paltz; and near Saugerties. Southbound chargers will be available at rest stops in Kingston and Modena.

Most electric cars are already equipped to hook up with the new chargers, while Tesla cars will need a special adaptor.

Electric cars are not normally used for long distances. The Thruway wants to change that by installing the new chargers. Unfortunately, there aren't planning to install any in Rockland and Westchester, leaving electric car owners from Manhattan crossing their fingers that they will make it to Newburgh before they need to plug in.
