A 99-year-old woman was in for quite a shock when claims she woke up to find an exotic animal lying on her chest.

Her son-in-law, Carlos Aguaras, says he was awoken at 2 a.m. by a frantic phone call from his mother-in-law.

So, what was this creature?

Veterinarian Dr. Don J. Harris says the animal is a kinkajou, a mammal which can usually be found in the rainforests of Central and South America. Sometimes, kinkajous are mistaken for ferrets or monkeys, though they are not closely related to either.

According to Wikipedia, kinkajous are part of the family Procyonidae, They are closer related to olingos, coatis, raccoons, and the ringtail and cacomistle.

Aguaras said that the animal was in the attic when he arrived, and they were able to draw in out with food. From there, they were able to get it inside a cage and brought it to Dr. Harris.

The animal, whose name is Banana, was being cared for at South Dade Animal Hospital in Miami. where the medical center operates.

No one seems to know how the animal got loose. Carlos Aguaras said that the owners should let the experts handle animals like this.

"Put it in the hands of the experts, but it's not intended to be a pet in a home," he said.
