The cause of a weekend fire that killed a Dutchess County woman in her home was discovered.

On Saturday around 7 p.m., the East Fishkill Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at home on Augusta Drive in Hopewell Junction.

Emergency responders arrived to find the house heavily consumed by the blaze. A 47-year-old man and his 17-year-old son, who live on the lower level of home, escaped before the fire reached their downstairs apartment.

The homeowner, 52-year-old Katherine Perez was believed to be still inside.

Once the fire was under control, Perez was found deceased inside her home.

An investigation determined the fire was an accidental electrical fire starting in a wall of the structure. An autopsy performed by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office indicated that Perez died due to smoke inhalation.

The 47-year-old man and his 17-year-old son are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The East Fishkill Fire Department was assisted by Village of Fishkill, LaGrange, New Hackensack Fire departments and Mobile Life Support Ambulance, with Rombout Fire Co. on standby.
