A Dutchess County woman is charged with illegally receiving over $6,000 in subsidized child care.

Cheron Williams, 30, of Poughkeepsie was charged with 3rd-degree welfare fraud, a class D felony.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division, along with the Special Investigations Unit of the Dutchess County Community and Family Services Department, revealed that Williams allegedly received $6,364 in subsidized child care between Sept. 2014 and Dec. 2014.

Williams is accused of concealing the fact that there was a family member at home that was able to watch the children, which would have made her ineligible for the benefits.

Williams was arraigned at the City of Poughkeepsie Court, and was released on her own recognizance. She is due back in court on May 18.
