A Dutchess County woman is accused of falsely reporting her wallet was lost and close to $10,000 was charged to her debit card at a casino.

The Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department charged 32-year-old Stephanie Kelly-Sambuco, of Wappinger Falls with making a sworn false statement, a class E Felony.

Police say Kelly-Sambuco told police that she lost her wallet, which contained her Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union debit card, at the Bradley International Airport in Connecticut. She also allegedly told police that there were unauthorized cash withdrawals from her debit card at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut totaling $9,927.25.

HVFCU had temporarily credited Kelly-Sambuco’s debit card account after she reported the incident to the Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department.

A multi-agency investigation began, with the assistance from HVFCU fraud division and the Mohegan Tribal Police Department, which revealed that Kelly-Sambuco made the cash withdrawals in Connecticut.

Kelly-Sambuco was arraigned by the Village of Wappingers Falls Court and she is scheduled to re-appear in Village of Wappingers Falls Court on July 28.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing and other charges are pending.
