A Dutchess County woman is accused of using a friend’s debit card to pay her cellphone bill.

New York State Police from Wappinger arrested 31-year-old Cassandra A. Coons of Wappingers Falls, New York for second-degree identity theft, a class E felony, petit larceny and unlawful possession of personal ID, both misdemeanors.

On Sept. 7, State Police were contacted by a man from Wappinger who said that Coons, an acquaintance of his, used his debit card number to make payments on her prepaid cell phone account.

Police say that an investigation revealed that Coons made over $800 in fraudulent charges using the victim’s Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union debit card number between August of 2015 and Sept. of 2016.

Coons voluntarily surrendered herself to police and was issued an appearance ticket directing her to appear in the Town of Wappinger Court on Sept. 28.
