Two local bridges have re-opened to traffic after months of construction. In a press release Friday, Dutchess County Department of Public Works announced work has been completed on the two bridges on Degarmo Road in Poughkeepsie and LaGrange. The busy road sees around 10,000 cars per day.

The job was completed on time and under budget at a cost of approximately $2.6 million. Each was raised four feet to allow greater clearance during storms. Existing bridge beams were replaced as were the decks, abutments were modified as well.

The construction initially caused some confusion for local residents as there are several popular business' in the area. And if you took the wrong direction, you had to go all the way back around. Overlook Drive In and Fairview Cafe were only accessible from Route 55, while the batting cages and Germania of Poughkeepsie were only available via Route 44. DPW eventually put signs out on both roadways to ease confusion.
