A local man who was trying to feed his drug addiction has been arrested in connection with Tuesday's shooting of an teenager near the Quick Shop Deli on River Road in the Village of Harriman, New York State Police said.

Following an investigation, New York State Police in Monroe arrested 25-year-old Matthew Bauman. The Harriman resident allegedly stole a firearm from a family member in hopes of using it to commit a robbery at the Quick Shop deli. It's believed Bauman was trying to get money to feed his drug addiction.

Aron Weiss, 18, of Kiryas Joel, was near the deli using his cell phone when he was confronted by Bauman. Bauman was unsuccessful in his attempts to take money from the 18-year-old. As Weiss was fleeing he was shot one time in the shoulder by Bauman.

Bauman was charged with assault, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies. He was arraigned at the Village of Harriman Court and remanded to Orange County Jail without bail.
