Can you see what's so offensive about this coffee mug that it caused Disney World to pull it from their parks? Most people wouldn't realize it, but this mug actually depicts a dark moment from Disney World's history.

Last year Disney and Starbucks formed a partnership that made way for the installation of Starbucks Coffee stores throughout all four of the Walt Disney World theme parks. So far there are two stores in operation; One at the Magic Kingdom and another at Epcot Center. These Starbucks stores have already proven to be extremely popular with park guests.

To celebrate the Disney and Starbucks partnership, special commemorative coffee mugs were designed to be sold at the theme parks. There are four designs that are a part of the "You Are Here Collection," and the keepsakes are only available at the actual Starbucks locations within Walt Disney World. When the mugs went on sale for the very first time a few weeks ago collectors scrambled to purchase the limited-edition souvenirs.

This week, however, the Epcot mugs were quietly pulled from shelves after guests noticed that the monorail depicted on the mug has a purple stripe on it. In 2009 there was a tragic accident involving the conductor of a purple-striped monorail. The young employee died after being rammed by another monorail car in Disney World. The purple monorail has since been retired and replaced with a peach-stripe monorail.

News 13 in Orlando reports that Disney has confirmed the mug has been permanently recalled from stores because of the purple stripe. A new design is expected to be released in March.

I was in Disney World this week and, unknowingly, was among the very last people to purchase the mug before the recall. Disney and Starbucks fans are now scrambling to get their hands on this rare mug, driving up prices on Ebay as high as $300.

I think I'll hold on to mine for now. Maybe one day this souvenir will be valuable enough to pay for an entire Disney Vacation.
