The Hobnobbin Pub announced this week that it was closing its doors for good. But do ghosts have anything to do with it?

A post on the restaurant's website this week announced that the popular bar and restaurant would be closing after 27 years on Halloween. The date may be appropriate, since the building is said to be haunted.

The restaurant was built in the mid 30s and was originally named the Gibson Inn. Since then, the building has changed names and owners several times and now word has it that the new owners will rename it Gibson's.

Paranormal investigators visited the Hobnobbin Pub four years ago to investigate the many stories of hauntings at the restaurant. According to researchers, customers and workers have claimed for years to hear people talking and doors closing when no one was actually there.

One cook claims that as he was opening up the restaurant early one Sunday morning the dishwasher suddenly turned on by itself. He thought it was odd, so he turned it off and went back across the kitchen. As he returned to work the washer turned on again. The cook was so freaked out that he left the building and refused to come back in.

The pub used to be a popular hangout for pilots from Poughkeepsie Airport, now know as Dutchess County Airport, back in the 1930s and 40s. Some say the ghosts of those pilots can still be heard congregating in the restaurant when no one is around.

Another ghost that's believed to still haunt the building is of a woman who hung herself in the restaurant's stairwell.
