A Mid Hudson county is one of just 67 jurisdictions across the country that the Department of Justice will be monitoring in person on Election Day.

When you go to cast your vote the DOJ will have their eyes on you. The Civil Rights Division has announced that they will be on site in Orange County New York to enforce federal voting rights laws that protect the rights of all citizens to access the ballot on Election Day.

Since the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, the Department of Justice has sent monitors to watch over elections in jurisdictions around the country to protect the rights of voters.

This year just three counties in New York will be monitored. Besides Orange County the Department will also attend elections in Kings and Queens Counties in New York City.

Voters in the rest of the Hudson Valley can lodge any complaints related to possible voting rights violations over the phone to representatives of the Department of Justice at (800) 253-3931.

The Department suggests that voters who witnesses any polling place disruptions should contact their local election officials and alert personnel working the local polling place.. Threats of violence or intimidation should be directed to police by calling 911.
