David Wright to Undergo Season Ending Neck Surgery

David Wright will more than likely miss the rest of the season.

The Mets' third baseman was scheduled for surgery Thursday to repair a herniated disc in his neck. Initially, the Mets though he'd miss about six to eight weeks of action

Wright had tried anti-inflammatory injections, as well as rest and rehab to cure the stiff neck, though nothing seemed to work.

The surgery raises more concerns that Mets' captain's career is over. Wright is currently signed with New York through the 2020 season, but a degenerative spinal condition leaves his future in baseball cloudy at best.

Wright was diagnosed with the condition in 2015 and missed 115 games last year.
