There are some Mets fans who are bracing for the future without David Wright.

Wright was placed on the disabled a week ago and is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a herniated disc in his neck.

The 33-year-old team captain won't be back until at least August at the earliest. NJ.com says that Wright hadn't played since May 27 due to nagging issues with his neck.  Anti-inflammatory medications did little good.

Could this be the beginning of the end to a once great career?

Wright was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal column. He already missed 115 games in 2015.

Manager Terry Collins said that they're not going with surgery as of now, though this could always change as Wright is set to meet with Dr. Robert Watkins on Monday. Dr. Watkins is the specialist he rehabbed with last summer.

Wright had struggled in 2016, batting .226 with seven homers and 14 RBI over 37 games, He was beginning to show signs of turning around though as he had homered in three consecutive games prior to being sidelined with the injury.

Wright is signed with the Mets through 2020.
